As professionals in the industry, we are all constantly reminded of how important our health and safety is when working and the importance of wearing PPE - So, why do so many tradesmen avoid wearing safety glasses?

We cannot ignore the positive progress of health and safety in the construction industry, with new and improved equipment, regulations and work wear continue to dominate with positive effects on the industry. However, the resistance to wear safety glasses whilst working still seems to be rife in the construction industry, and in this post we hope to remind you of the importance of wearing safety glasses.

Due to a better understanding and better education put into the construction industry, when it comes to health and safety advancements, professionals are better equipped than ever. Increased importance of health and safety and stricter regulations put in place have seen huge improvements in safety for trade professionals and statistics have shown that injuries and fatalities are continuing to decrease in rate as the industry develops over time.

Although these positive steps have been taken, the amount of eye injuries that are reported in the construction industry are still at an unnecessary high. Eye injuries are effecting over 10,000 professionals in the construction industry ever single year, and the levels of prevention needed to reduce these by over half are as simple as putting on a pair of safety glasses.

Chemicals, metal fragments and dust are the leading causes of preventable eye injuries in the construction work place. All of these work place hazards can cause damage to the eye from mild irritation to complete blindness, and most of these injuries can be prevented by wearing the correct equipment.

You may not even come into direct contact with these issues, you could rub something into your eyes whilst working alongside chemicals, and cause serious issues to your vision if you don't invest in a pair of safety glasses.

The bone structure of your face helps protect your eyes from injury due to impact from large objects, and eyelashes help protect against injury from small objects, but eyes are still very prone to injury if proper precautions are not taken to prevent accidents. Eye injuries are a serious matter. Not only can an eye injury be painful, but if severe enough could cause a loss of vision. When working with any kind of equipment that may be hazardous to your eye safety, don't forget your safety glasses.
