Surface Preparation

Before jointing take a close look at your boards – good jointing cannot cover up bad boarding. Ensure all boards are properly fixed and all protruding screws or nail heads are driven home. Damaged boards must be repaired before you start. Superficial damage can be removed by rubbing down with fine sandpaper. Deeper indentations and small areas of damaged plasterboard can be repaired by filling with Wondertex prem filler. Extensive damage to plasterboard core must be removed and repaired by inserting a patch of new board.

Mixing

Always use clean water, bucket and tools. The suggested mix ratio for Wondertex prem filler is 1 part water to 2 parts powder. Alternatively 6 litres of water per 12.5kg bag. Add Wondertex prem filler to water and stir continuously until free from lumps. Allow to stand for 5 minutes and then mix again before use.

Application and Fixing

Wondertex prem filler should be used for hand application only and is ideal for use with perforated paper tapes, self-adhesive tapes and metal angle tapes. Apply Wondertex prem filler to the trough of the tapered edge joints, ensuring sufficient material is applied to cover the width of jointing tape being used. Centre the tape over the joint and press down with a jointing knife into the applied product, using sufficient pressure to free any trapped air bubbles. Leave enough Wondertex prem filler under the tape to ensure good adhesion and remove any excess material from the edges with a jointing knife. Immediately after the tape has been fixed and before Wondertex prem filler has started to stiffen, apply more product over the tape in a continuous operation. Make flush with the surface of the plasterboard, fully encapsulating the tape using a jointing knife.

When using self-adhesive tape, fix the tape directly to the plasterboard firmly then apply Wondertex prem filler to the face of the tape, ensuring it penetrates through the mesh, filling the joint and completely covering the tape. On internal angles the jointing tape should be folded along the crease provided and the tape embedded into the product, as previously described. Avoid any build up of material under the tape at the apex of the corner.

Once all Wondertex prem filler is dry apply a first coat of Wondertex prem finish using a jointing knife to a width of 180-250mm over the taped and filled joint. When this has dried, the joint can be completed by applying a second coat of Wondertex prem finish, over the filled joint, using a jointing knife in a layer approx. 250-300mm wide. The edges of the band should be feathered and smoothed out with a slightly damp slurry sponge.

When dry the surface can be sanded smooth to run flush with the face of the plasterboard. Special care should be taken to avoid over sanding.

Storage

The product must be stored in temperatures above 5°C and not exceeding 30°C, in a dry place.

Shelf Life

6 months in original unopened bags if stored in the conditions listed above.

Notes

Do not use in temperatures less than 3°C. Temperatures must also remain above 3°C during drying time. Clean any accidental splashes from floors etc. with warm water before dry.
