Preparation is something that is of the highest priority when it comes to drywall and plastering projects. Any experienced professional will tell you that preparation is the key element in completing a job efficiently and to the highest standard.

Skipping the preparation of your project or simply not being accurate enough can cost you the finish you promised a client, and consequently cost you the reputation of your business. So when we say prepare, we really mean it.

Plastering tape in particular will be your best friend whether your project is a small patch or a large scale project. We are taking a closer look at why plastering tape is so important...

Importantly, you must know your plastering tapes, and which one is going to be most suitable for your project. In most cases basic drywall tape is sufficient, it's lightweight, easy to tear and has flexible use. However, there are a couple of other plastering tapes for more specific projects that you need to be aware of to optimise your finish.

Scrim tape is really popular amongst beginners that are getting used to working plasterboard. Not only is it great for working with plasterboard, but is a generally good all rounder tape. You don't need to use compound with it which makes it much easier to use, and gives the flexibility combined with strength you will need thanks to it's interwoven design made with fibreglass.

The most superior tape is the metal angle tape, made with reinforced, galvanised metal. This tape in particular is extremely rigid and strong and is perfect for finishing external and internal drywall corners.

Ultimately, you will learn from experience which tape works for you and which tapes are more superior for the projects you are working on in particular.

Drywall and plastering professionals with a lot of experience usually have a tape they favour, and it would be useful to ask those you work with what they recommend in particular. There are constantly new tapes entering the market and at Drywall Tools Direct we stock only the very best plastering tapes available.
